Chelsea Kramer is a self taught artist currently creating handwoven Weavescapes and other West Coast inspired wall art. Chelsea lives on a small farm in the heart of Deep Cove, just north of Victoria, BC. I moved to the Island about 15 years ago, have been painting for about six years and weaving for three. I am a self taught artist who has ventured down many creative avenues in my life.
Some of these include cake decorating, plant collecting, ethically sourcing crystals and metalsmithing. Weaving is a wonderful teacher and a form of meditation for me. It has taught me patience, as weaving can be a very slow labor of love.
When I realized I could blend my two greatest artistic loves, watercolour and weaving, the Weavescape was born. Each Weavescape is first handwoven on one of my tapestry looms, then finished, trimmed and ironed. Then each handwoven piece is hand painted with high quality watercolour paints, dried, ironed again and mounted to a canvas.
My west coast inspired tapestries are woven more traditionally though on the same loom. All my pieces are either framed or left with beautiful raw edges. I love that I have not yet woven a "perfect" piece. Imperfection can tell you something is made by hand and with love.
